Location: The John James Medical Centre is located in the inner southern suburb of Deakin. Adequate parking is available in front of the medical centre, including wheelchair access. Toilets and public telephones are available. Refreshment facilities for visitors are not available in the Centre itself, but are available in a number of cafes within easy walking distance.

Appointments:

New patient appointments normally consist of 15 minutes filling out a comprehensive medical questionnaire followed by a 1 hour appointment.
You need to bring your referral with you. This is a legal requirement to allow you to claim a rebate from Medicare.
We ask that patients attending for new appointments stop antihistamines for 5 days before and avoid the use of sunscreens and moisturizers on their arms only for 3 days. This is because both can interfere with the results of allergy testing.
We attempt to do all testing required at the time of the first visit. Letters to referring doctors are normally dispatched within 24 hours.
Our usual waiting list is rarely longer than 4 weeks for new appointments. If you believe your problem is urgent, please ask your local doctor to telephone Dr Mullins to discuss the case in advance.

Accommodation: For visitors from out of town, a number of motels are available within the area. Please check with the proprietors regarding their facilities and tariffs. The following is a selection within 5-10 minutes drive of the Medical Centre. All have nearby shops and restaurants. Please note that this list is provided for convenience and does not constitute a recommendation.

If entering Canberra from the north (e.g. from Goulburn, Yass, Gundagai, Wagga) drive south down Northbourne Avenue into the city. Keep going straight ahead towards New Parliament House and follow the main road as it veers to the left and around Parliament House. This road becomes Adelaide Avenue. As you drive down Adelaide Avenue you will pass "The Lodge" on the left. About 300 metres further on there is a turnoff down and to the left (to Deakin shops, petrol station and the Embassy Motel). To get to the Medical Centre, stay on Adelaide Avenue and take the next turn up and to the left to Kent Street. When you get to the top, turn left into Kent street. Turn right at the first roundabout to enter Strickland Crescent. The Medical Centre is about 400 metres down the road on your left.

If entering Canberra from the south (e.g. Cooma, Thredbo, Jindabyne), you will travel north along the Monaro Highway and turn left onto Hindmarsh Drive, following the exit sign to Woden. Travel down Hindmarsh Drive. Turn right at the 3rd set of traffic lights into Yamba Drive. You will pass the Canberra Hospital on your left. Turn right at the traffic lights into Wisdom Street and follow the route below to get to the Medical Centre.

If coming to Canberra from the coast, (eg. Batemans Bay), you will drive through Braidwood, then Bungandore, then enter Queanbeyan. Drive along Canberra Avenue. Turn left into Hindmarsh Drive, following the signs to Woden. Travel down Hindmarsh Drive. Turn right at the 5th set of traffic lights into Yamba Drive. You will pass the Canberra Hospital on your left. Turn right at the traffic lights into Wisdom Street and follow the route below to get to the Medical Centre.
